2006 Martin Codax Albarino**
martinalbarino.jpg Region Price Purchased Date
Rias Baixas, Spain $12 Wine.com 1/12/08
An aromatic and complex wine that is light in body but big in flavors of ripe apples, peach, apricot, melon, grapefruit and lemon zest melded perfectly together with a bright minerality. Sort of a cross between Viognier and Pinot Grigio. Crisp and elegant for the price this wine makes a lovely aperitif. An up-and-coming grape for a good reason.

2006 Quinta de Couselo "Turonia" Albarino**
turoniaalbarino.jpg Region Price Purchased Date
Rias Baixas, Spain $18 @ Wine House 10/5/08
A pale, lemon-colored wine with aromatics of ripe green fruit, flowers and a hint of grass and slate. The palate is light with good structure and acidity along with flavors of pear, melon, apple and hints of kiwi and herbs on the finish. A pleasant version of this varietal with good fruit and a nice mouthfeel that will go down smooth on a summer's day.

2006 Quinta do Feital Auratus Alvarinho***
auratus.jpg Region Price Tasted Date
Vinho Verde, Portugal $14 @ Wine House 3/24/08
It's watery pale, lemon color fails to convey the youthful and bright aromas of tropical and stone fruit flavors. Mouth-filling fruit, mostly apples and peaches, creates a first impression of sweetness, but finishes dry and tart with notes of minerals and spice. Lively acidity keeps the fruit in balance. An unexpectedly lovely everyday wine.

2006 Salneval Albarino**
salneval.jpg Region Price Tasted Date
Rias Baixas, Spain $11 @ Dinner 9/3/08
Light straw in color, the nose of this wine is aromatic with floral, honey, pear and tropical fruit notes and a slight hint of minerality. The palate is light-bodied with crisp acidity and flavors of citrus, melon, pear and ripe apple. The finish is refreshing and soft with lingering fruit flavors. Not an overly complex wine, but a pleasant quaffer that keeps you going back to the glass for more. A nice Albarino that won't break your bank.
